Former Indian Hockey Stars Embark on Coaching Journey to Elevate Next Generation Talent

New Delhi: Hockey India has embarked on a pioneering initiative aimed at revolutionizing coaching methodologies and nurturing the next generation of hockey talent across the nation. Former hockey stalwarts, including goalkeepers and drag-flickers, recently underwent rigorous training under the guidance of High-Performance Director Herman Kruis at SAI Bengaluru.

The program, designed to standardize coaching approaches, saw the participation of esteemed former India goalkeepers such as Adrian D’Souza, Bharat Chetri, Yogita Bali, Helen Mary, Dipika Murty, Akash Chikte, PT Rao, along with renowned former drag-flickers Rupinder Pal Singh, Gurjinder Singh, VR Raghunath, and Jaspreet Kaur.

Under the meticulous mentorship of Herman Kruis, these hockey icons sharpened their coaching skills, immersing themselves in the latest techniques and methodologies in goalkeeping and drag-flicking. The objective is to establish consistency and uniformity in coaching standards, ensuring that aspiring athletes nationwide, especially at the grassroots level, receive standardized training to hone their skills effectively.

“This program reflects our unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and standardizing coaching methodologies. By empowering former hockey legends with advanced coaching techniques, we are entrusting them with the responsibility of shaping the future of Indian hockey. This collaborative effort will not only raise the bar in coaching standards but also enhance the prospects of our budding athletes,” expressed Herman Kruis.

Upon completion of their training, these seasoned mentors will be deployed to premier national academies across India to conduct intensive three-day training sessions. This strategic deployment aims to disseminate their expertise nationwide, benefiting aspiring young athletes striving to excel in the sport.

This groundbreaking initiative aligns seamlessly with Hockey India’s recent announcement of investing in the future of Indian hockey through specialized coaching programs targeting young drag-flickers and goalkeepers.
