
Guwahati: Padma Shri awardee Jadav Payeng is all set to undertake a new mission of making Mexico greener.
Known as the ‘The Forest Man of India’ Jadav has signed an agreement with an NGO Fundacion Azteca in December 2020 to collaborate with the organisation on an environmental project in Mexico. The ambitious project aims to make the country greener by planting 7 million trees.
The Mexican government has granted a 10-year visa to Jadav Payeng. He will travel to the country in September this year. As per the agreement for three years, Jadev will visit the country for three months from September to November and motivate students for the massive plantation drive.
Popularly known as Molai Payeng, he spent 30 years of his life planting around 40 million trees to create a man-made forest on the sandbar of the Brahmaputra river. His forest covers an area of 550 hectares of land.
