Foreign Tour Operators Explore Odisha’s Heritage and Natural Wonders in Familiarization Tour

Bhubaneswar: In an effort to position Odisha as a premier global travel destination, the state government has organized a familiarization tour for foreign tour operators (FTOs) as part of the 6th Odisha Travel Bazar. The initiative, jointly hosted by the Odisha Tourism Department and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), aims to provide firsthand experience of the state’s cultural heritage, historical sites, and natural landscapes, enabling operators to design curated travel packages for international tourists.

As part of the tour, the visiting operators explored key attractions that showcase Odisha’s diverse tourism offerings. Their itinerary included Lalitgiri, a significant Buddhist site forming part of the state’s famed Diamond Triangle, known for its ancient stupas, monasteries, and relics. The group also visited Bhitarkanika National Park, home to a unique mangrove ecosystem, estuarine crocodiles, and a renowned Crocodile Breeding Centre. They later experienced the pristine coastal beauty of Pentha Beach, famous for its unspoiled shores and red crab colonies.

The tour also took the FTOs to Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves, known for their exquisite Jain rock-cut sculptures dating back to the 1st century BCE. At the Kala Bhoomi Craft Museum, they witnessed Odisha’s traditional handicrafts and tribal artifacts, while the iconic Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provided a glimpse into the state’s architectural grandeur. A highlight of the visit was the Light and Sound Show at Konark, which brought the temple’s historical significance to life.

In addition to heritage sites, the FTOs explored Raghurajpur, a heritage crafts village renowned for its intricate Pattachitra paintings and Gotipua dance performances. Visits to the Mukteswar and Rajarani Temples offered insights into Odisha’s distinct temple architecture, while the Dhauli Peace Pagoda provided a deeper understanding of the state’s Buddhist influence.

The familiarization tour underscores the Odisha government’s commitment to promoting the state as a global tourism hub. By showcasing its unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, Odisha hopes to strengthen collaborations with international travel operators and attract a greater influx of foreign tourists in the coming years.
