Odisha Cabinet approves ₹4,000-crore Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet has approved the implementation of the Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY) with an outlay of ₹4,000 crore for the next five years to expand and strengthen rural road connectivity across the state.

The scheme will be implemented from 2026-27 to 2030-31, during which the Rural Development Department will construct around 4,607.21 km of new roads and complete 115 km of ongoing road projects already being executed under the programme.

Originally launched in 2014-15, the Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana aims to provide all-weather road connectivity to rural habitations that remain outside the coverage of other road development schemes.

The government expanded the scope of the programme in 2021-22 to include the widening and upgradation of existing Rural Development roads as well as roads transferred from the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, enabling comprehensive improvement of the rural road network.

Officials said the latest Cabinet approval will accelerate the creation of new road infrastructure while ensuring timely completion of ongoing projects. The initiative is expected to improve access to villages, strengthen connectivity to essential services and support economic activities in rural areas.

The government said enhanced road connectivity under the scheme will facilitate better access to education, healthcare, markets and other public services, while contributing to balanced regional development and improving the quality of life in rural Odisha.
