Five-Day Skill Training for Vocational Students Begins at CTTC and World Skill Centre

Bhubaneswar: A five-day hands-on skill development training programme for Class XII students and vocational instructors of Government Vocational Higher Secondary Schools began today at the Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC) and the World Skill Centre (WSC). Organised by the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE), Odisha under the School & Mass Education Department, the programme will run from December 1 to 5 with the aim of strengthening practical exposure and enhancing the industry readiness of students in the IT-ITeS and Electronics & Hardware (E&H) trades.

The inaugural session at CTTC, Bhubaneswar witnessed the presence of Niyati Pattnaik, Director, DHSE; Binita Senapati, Joint Director, DHSE; Shri Jitendra Nayak, Deputy Director, DHSE; Shri L. Rajsekhar, General Manager, CTTC; and K.M. Rajan, Senior Manager (Training). At the World Skill Centre, the programme was formally launched in the presence of Dr. Umakanta Sethy, OIC SAMS, DHSE, and Shri T. Thambi Rajah, Principal, WSC.

Addressing the participants, Director Niyati Pattnaik praised the State Government’s continued thrust on improving vocational education and noted that the IT-ITeS and Electronics & Hardware sectors offer immense opportunities in today’s technology-driven economy. She expressed confidence that hands-on training of this nature would boost students’ competence, confidence and employability. Joint Director Binita Senapati highlighted the steady advancement of vocational education in Odisha and said the initiative would enable students to gain both technical knowledge and essential workplace skills.

Deputy Director Jitendra Nayak spoke about the significance of institutional partnerships with premier platforms like CTTC and WSC to ensure high-quality practical learning. CTTC General Manager Shri L. Rajashekhar and Senior Manager K.M. Rajan applauded the enthusiasm of the participating students and reaffirmed CTTC’s commitment to supporting the State’s mission of creating a skilled and future-ready youth workforce.

At the World Skill Centre, Dr. Umakant Sethy described vocational education as a transformative pillar of Odisha’s expanding education reforms. WSC Principal T. Thamby Raja urged students to make full use of the advanced labs and training infrastructure to build robust professional capabilities.

A total of 102 students from eight districts—Balangir, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jajpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur—are undergoing training at CTTC. Meanwhile, 71 students from six districts—Balangir, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak and Kendrapada—have commenced their training at the World Skill Centre.

With hands-on exposure and industry-level training, the programme is expected to significantly enhance the skill ecosystem for vocational students in Odisha, preparing them for emerging job opportunities in fast-evolving technology sectors.
