
Bhubaneswar: The inaugural World Odia Language Conference, slated to take place in the capital city from February 3 to 5, will witness the felicitation of numerous eminent personalities, including recipients of prestigious awards such as Padma and Sahitya Akademi.
The three-day conference, hosted at Janata Maidan, will celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to literature and art, according to a senior official.
Renowned historian Hermann Kulke and 58 Padma Awardees will be among the honorees at this landmark event, showcasing the rich cultural and literary heritage of Odisha.
In addition to Padma Awardees, recipients of esteemed accolades like Jnanpith Award, Sahitya Akademi awards, Saraswati Samman, Moortidevi Award, Jaydev Samman, Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja Samman, Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman, and Dharmapada award will also be recognized during the conference.
The conference aims to delve into the past, present, and future of the Odia language, fostering discussions that promote its growth and preservation.
The decision to organize this significant conference was made during the Heritage Cabinet meeting on December 19, with the primary objective of globally popularizing the Odia language.
Distinguished linguists and language experts of national and international acclaim are expected to participate, contributing to the intellectual depth of the discussions.
To engage the youth in the initiative, students from across the state will actively participate in the conference. Special efforts will be directed towards promoting the Odia language among the younger generation, ensuring its effective preservation as the mother tongue, as per sources familiar with the event.
