Ranchi: Day 5 of the National Women’s Hockey League 2024 (Phase 1) witnessed thrilling encounters as Hockey Haryana and Hockey Madhya Pradesh emerged victorious in their matches held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Hockey Haryana’s Triumph Over Hockey Bengal:
In a captivating showdown, Hockey Haryana secured a nail-biting 4-3 victory against Hockey Bengal. The game kicked off with Hockey Bengal taking an early lead, with Silbiya Nag (2’) converting a penalty corner swiftly followed by Selestina Horo (19’) doubling their advantage with another penalty corner conversion. However, Hockey Haryana’s Captain Neelam (20’) swiftly responded with a penalty corner conversion, narrowing the deficit to 2-1 at halftime.
The second half witnessed a spirited comeback from Hockey Haryana, with Nandni (41’) leveling the score with a penalty corner conversion, followed by Shashi Khasa (43’) giving them the lead with another penalty corner conversion. Pinki (46’) extended Hockey Haryana’s lead with a field goal, but Hockey Bengal fought back, with Shanti Horo (51’) scoring a field goal to keep the game alive. However, Hockey Haryana held firm to clinch a hard-fought 4-3 victory.
Hockey Madhya Pradesh Prevails Over Hockey Maharashtra:
In the day’s second clash, Hockey Madhya Pradesh emerged victorious with a narrow 2-1 win against Hockey Maharashtra. After a goalless first half, Aanchal Sahu (45’) broke the deadlock late in the third quarter with a field goal, giving Hockey Madhya Pradesh the lead. Hockey Maharashtra’s Captain Ashwini Kolekar (50’) quickly responded with a field goal, leveling the score. However, Swati (54’) restored Hockey Madhya Pradesh’s lead with another field goal, securing the win for her team.
The National Women’s Hockey League promises more thrilling action as Hockey Mizoram takes on Manipur Hockey, while Hockey Jharkhand battles it out with Hockey Association of Odisha.
In Friday’s late-evening matches, Hockey Association of Odisha emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Manipur Hockey, while Hockey Jharkhand secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Hockey Madhya Pradesh.
