
Election Commission Issues Advisory to Elevate Political Campaign Discourse
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Sunday that the vote counting dates for the assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim have been rescheduled to June 2nd, shifting from the earlier date of June 4th.
The decision to change the vote counting dates was made in conjunction with changing the dates for the assembly polls in the two states, which have been brought forward to April 19th. The modification aligns with the expiration of the terms of the Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, which is scheduled for June 2nd, 2024.
In its press release, the Election Commission stated, “EC is to conduct election to Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim before the cessation of their terms, The term of house of both the Legislative Assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim is due to expire on 02.06.2024.”
Furthermore, the EC clarified that there would be no alterations to the schedule for Parliamentary Constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
For Arunachal Pradesh, the nomination filing date has been set as March 27th, with the last date for withdrawal of candidature scheduled for April 19th.
