Ekamra Walks Unveil Odisha’s Cultural Heritage for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

Bhubaneswar, January 8: The inaugural edition of “Culture, Crafts, and Conversations” was launched today as part of the Ekamra Walks initiative by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA). This unique cultural experience, timed to coincide with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations, brings Odisha’s rich heritage to life through immersive and expertly curated walks.

Commencing at the Odisha State Archives, the event offered participants an exclusive glimpse into rare archival treasures, typically reserved for researchers. Visitors marveled at British-era audits of the iconic Jagannatha Temple and witnessed live demonstrations of document conservation techniques. Expert-guided tours provided insights into Odisha’s history and heritage, setting the tone for the rest of the walk.

The journey continued to the Kala Bhoomi – Odisha Crafts Museum, where participants explored traditional crafts and enjoyed a serene flute recital amidst the museum’s tranquil surroundings. This limited-edition cultural walk will run until January 10, offering visitors a chance to engage deeply with Odisha’s vibrant legacy.

This year’s Ekamra Walks feature a variety of trails designed to appeal to nature enthusiasts, history buffs, spiritual seekers, and adventure lovers:

  • Walk in the Wilderness: A tranquil exploration of the Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary, with misty mornings at Deras Dam providing a serene backdrop for connecting with nature.
  • Spiritual Sojourn: A deep dive into the architectural brilliance of Odisha’s iconic temples, unraveling the essence of the Kalingan School of Architecture.
  • Mystical Odyssey: A celebration of the Shakta Cult’s profound influence on Odisha’s spiritual traditions, accompanied by captivating narratives.
  • Culture, Crafts, and Conversations: A spotlight on Odia literary treasures, performing arts, and crafts, tracing the evolution of Odia identity from palm leaf manuscripts to early newspapers.
  • Jungle Safari and Nocturnal Jungle Safari: Adventures through the vibrant ecosystem of the Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary, offering both daytime exploration and thrilling nocturnal experiences.

Weekend Walks Until February

Launched on December 25, Ekamra Walks will continue every weekend until February, offering diverse experiences for visitors and locals alike. By intertwining heritage, culture, and nature, the initiative underscores Odisha’s status as a hub of history, artistry, and biodiversity.

As part of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations, the Ekamra Walks initiative invites participants to rediscover Odisha’s heritage, forging a deeper connection with its timeless traditions and natural beauty.
