Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) kickstarted the seven-day Ekamra Utsav at the IDCO exhibition ground, marking one of Odisha’s grandest celebrations of language and culture. The festival, coinciding with the First World Odia Language Conference, was inaugurated by Housing and Urban Development Minister Smt. Usha Devi.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to preserving its linguistic heritage, Ekamra Utsav is a significant cultural extravaganza. The festival, running until February 9, showcases Odisha’s rich heritage through diverse components, encompassing cinema, language, literature, and all aspects defining the Odia identity.
Distinguished guests present at the inauguration included Ashok Panda from the Science & Technology Department, Aswini Patra, the Minister Of Odia Language Literature & Culture Department, MLA Bhubaneswar (Central) Ananata Narayana Jena, Mayor Of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Smt. Sulochana Das, Deputy Mayor of BMC Smt. Manjulata Kanhar, BDA Vice Chairman Balwant Singh, OSD to BDA for City Festival Md. Sadique Alam, and BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange.
The main event, Sangitara Murchana, held at the IDCO Exhibition ground, featured captivating performances by renowned artists, celebrating Odia language and culture. Renowned artists and singers such as Jyotirmaye, Abhiram, Rajesh Sathpathy, Krushna, and Mitrabhanu graced the stage, showcasing their talent in the Smruti Tume segment.
Alongside Sangitara Murchana, the festival hosts the Food Festival – “AMA BYANJAN,” with 20 food stalls offering diverse delicacies from various districts of the state. The Ekamra Haat, a Night Flea Market, will run from February 3rd to 9th, showcasing cultural vibrancy against the city’s backdrop.
The festival also promises a spectacular drone show on February 7, 8, and 9, featuring 200 drones themed around Odia language, art, and culture. Madhusudan Marg leading to the venue will be adorned with designs inspired by Odia language and culture, enhancing the festival’s essence.
Ekamra Utsav aims to honor the profound legacy and ancient roots of the Odia language through a captivating exhibition centered on the Odia alphabet.
