Prime Minister Modi Unveils NTPC’s Power Initiatives in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW), marked the completion of NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project (1×250 MW), and laid the foundation stone for the NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2×660 MW) during a momentous event in Sambalpur. These projects, with a collective investment of Rs 28,978 Crore, are set to play a pivotal role in shaping Odisha’s energy future.

Situated in Sundargarh district, the Darlipali STPS is a pit-head Power Station employing Supercritical Technology, ensuring highly efficient operations. This facility is a key supplier of affordable power to states such as Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Sikkim.

The 250 MW NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd project in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) is integral to providing steadfast power supply to the steel plant, a crucial element for economic growth in the region.

Additionally, NTPC is spearheading the Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III, within the premises of the old TTPS plant in the Angul district. With Ultra Super Critical Technology-based units, this upcoming plant will boast a capacity three times that of its predecessor. While half of the capacity is dedicated to Odisha, states like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Assam will also benefit from cost-effective power generated at this pit-head station.

Designed with a focus on environmental sustainability, the project incorporates features like efficient electrostatic precipitator, Flue gas desulphurization, bio-mass cofiring, and covered storage for coal, contributing to reduced Specific Coal Consumption and CO2 emissions.

Beyond addressing energy needs, these projects are fostering regional development by generating direct and indirect employment opportunities. They are also instrumental in enhancing physical infrastructure, including roads, drainage, transportation, and communication facilities. NTPC is actively engaged in various community development initiatives in nearby villages, spanning education, drinking water, sanitation, health, women empowerment, rural sports, among others. As part of its commitment to healthcare, NTPC has established a Medical College cum Hospital in Sundargarh, Odisha.
