New Delhi: On the eve of vote counting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the Election Commission of India (ECI), highlighted several historic milestones achieved during this polling season. Chief among these is the world record set by India with 642 million registered voters, including a record-breaking participation of 312 million women.
Addressing the media, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said, “We have created a world record of 642 million voters. This is 1.5 times the number of voters in all G7 countries combined and 2.5 times that of the 27 countries in the European Union.” He applauded the voters, giving a standing ovation to all who took part in the seven-phase elections held from April 19 to June 1.
As the nation eagerly awaits the results to be announced on June 4, the Election Commission will reveal the winners for the 543 Parliamentary constituencies. Most exit polls have predicted a landslide victory for the ruling BJP and its NDA allies, suggesting a significant lead over the Opposition India bloc.
With the counting of votes set to begin, all eyes are on the Election Commission as it prepares to announce the outcomes that will shape the political landscape of the country for the next five years.
