Domestic LPG Price Increased by Rs 29; Cylinder Costs Rs 968 in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Households across the country will have to pay more for cooking gas as the price of domestic LPG cylinders was increased by Rs 29 on Saturday. The latest revision, effective from June 7, comes amid continued volatility in global energy markets and rising costs faced by state-owned oil marketing companies.

Following the hike, the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up from Rs 913 to Rs 942. In Bhubaneswar, the cost has increased from Rs 939 to Rs 968 per cylinder.

This is the second increase in domestic LPG prices in the past three months. In March, oil companies had raised the price of a cylinder by Rs 60 after geopolitical tensions in the Middle East disrupted energy supplies and triggered a surge in international fuel prices.

Industry sources said the March revision was insufficient to fully offset losses incurred on domestic LPG sales. Before the latest increase, state-run fuel retailers were reportedly losing around Rs 703 on every cylinder sold.

The rise in cooking gas prices is part of a broader trend of fuel price revisions in recent weeks. Petrol and diesel prices have increased by a cumulative Rs 7.50 per litre since mid-May, while compressed natural gas (CNG) rates have been raised by nearly Rs 6 per kg.

Despite these hikes, oil marketing companies continue to bear a substantial portion of the burden. According to industry estimates, they are still incurring losses of about Rs 11 per litre on petrol and Rs 33.6 per litre on diesel sales.

The government has so far chosen not to pass on the full impact of higher international fuel prices to consumers. As global crude oil prices remain uncertain, state-owned fuel retailers have been absorbing a significant share of the increased costs.

The latest LPG price hike is expected to further strain household budgets, particularly for families already coping with rising expenses on fuel, transport and essential commodities.
