Digital India Innovation Zone Showcased at India Mobile Congress 2024

New Delhi: The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has set up a Digital India Innovation Zone at the ongoing India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024. The pavilion offers delegates hands-on experience with India’s cutting-edge Digital Public Infrastructure (DPIs), showcasing innovations in digital governance and technology.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 8th edition of the India Mobile Congress at Bharat Mandapam during the International Telecommunication Union – World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024. During the event, the Prime Minister toured the exhibition and witnessed various technological displays, emphasizing India’s progress in the digital sector.

S Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, also visited the Digital India Innovation Zone and examined the advanced electronic systems and digital e-governance solutions on display.

The MeitY pavilion at the India Mobile Congress offers an immersive experience of key DPIs, including DigiLocker, UMANG, Aadhaar, UPI, eSanjeevani, ONDC, and Digital India BHASHINI. Organizations such as C-DAC, NIXI, and SAMEER have set up interactive booths to showcase India’s technological innovations and digital solutions.

The UMANG booth demonstrates essential services like real-time blood bank searches, train navigation, passport services, and pensioner life certificate generation. Visitors can interact with the services through a rotoscope. At the DigiLocker booth, attendees can participate in a timed game, “Time Challenge: Secure Docs,” to win Digital India merchandise.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is offering a live demonstration of UPI’s ‘Scan & Pay’ feature and showcasing its role in revolutionizing digital payments in India.

At the ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) stall, visitors get an interactive experience with real-life examples of ONDC’s impact on e-commerce. They can also participate in a trivia game and win prizes.

The Digital India BHASHINI booth showcases innovative language technologies such as Baatcheet, which facilitates cross-language mobile calls, and Sabha Lekha, an AI-based multilingual meeting platform. The Baatcheet app allows for both app-to-app and app-to-mobile communication, with transliteration for better clarity. Other innovations include ConversationAIly, designed to help doctors improve patient engagement, and Signassistive, which makes information accessible to India’s 18 million deaf and hard-of-hearing population.

The pavilion also features a teleconsultation center at the eSanjeevani booth, showcasing how India’s National Telemedicine Service is bridging healthcare gaps in rural and urban areas.

Meanwhile, Aadhaar is demonstrating its face authentication technology, which is transforming how millions of Indians verify their identity digitally.

In addition to DPIs, C-DAC and SAMEER have put a spotlight on next-generation communication technologies. C-DAC has displayed 5G and mobile security solutions, while SAMEER is exhibiting advancements in atmospheric science, healthcare, 6G communications, and industrial applications. SAMEER’s booth features a scale model of a Millimeter Wave Radiometer for climate studies and a Superconducting MRI Scanner for medical use.

IMC 2024 is a platform to showcase India’s innovation ecosystem. The event features over 400 exhibitors and 900 startups, with participation from 120 countries. Key topics include 6G, 5G use cases, cloud computing, IoT, quantum technology, cybersecurity, green technology, and electronics manufacturing. The four-day event is organized by the Department of Telecommunications and runs from October 15-18, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
