DGS and C-DAC Sign Landmark MoU to Revolutionize India’s Maritime Sector

New Delhi: 45 In a major step toward advancing technological innovation in India’s maritime sector, the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today.

The MoU, signed by Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping, and Shri E. Magesh, Director General of C-DAC, at an event held at MeitY, symbolizes a strategic partnership aimed at transforming the maritime industry through cutting-edge technologies. S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, along with senior officials from MeitY, DG Shipping, and C-DAC, graced the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, S. Krishnan highlighted the potential of this collaboration to modernize maritime administration and drive innovation within the sector. The partnership reflects DGS’s vision of establishing India as a globally recognized, progressive maritime administration by leveraging technological excellence.

Key Areas of Collaboration

The MoU outlines several initiatives designed to modernize maritime operations and drive technological excellence:

  • Digitalization and Automation of Maritime Processes: Streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency through advanced digital tools.
  • Maritime Data Analytics and Predictive Modeling: Using data-driven insights to optimize decision-making and operational strategies.
  • Cybersecurity and Maritime IoT: Strengthening cybersecurity frameworks and integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in maritime operations.
  • Maritime Education and Training: Enhancing skills and knowledge through advanced educational programs.
  • Research and Development in Maritime Technologies: Driving innovation through collaborative R&D efforts in areas like high-performance computing, blockchain, and e-Governance.

This partnership between DGS and C-DAC underscores the growing importance of technology in the maritime sector. It aims to address challenges and seize opportunities through innovation, collaboration, and strategic planning. By integrating high-performance computing, cybersecurity, and advanced analytics, the initiative seeks to build a sustainable and forward-looking maritime ecosystem.

The event witnessed participation from prominent dignitaries, including Shri Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY; Sanket S Bhondve, Joint Secretary, MeitY; Sunita Verma, Scientist G & Group Coordinator, MeitY; and senior officials from DGS and C-DAC. Representatives from C-DAC’s R&D, Chennai, and Silchar centers, as well as technical experts from DGS, also participated in the ceremony.

As the maritime industry continues to evolve, this MoU serves as a significant milestone in the journey toward creating a digitally empowered and technologically advanced maritime administration. With this collaboration, India is poised to strengthen its position as a leader in global maritime innovation.
