Delegation from Lok Jan Shakti Party Extends Support to One Nation One Election Initiative
New Delhi: A delegation from the Lok Jan Shakti Party (RLJP), led by Shri Pashupati Kumar Paras, Union Minister for Food Processing Industries and President of RLJP, met with Former President of India and Chairman of the High-Level Committee (HLC) on One Nation One Election, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. The meeting took place at the Office of the HLC at Jodhpur Officers’ Hostel, New Delhi.
The delegation included key members such as Prince Raj (Member of Parliament, Samastipur, Lok Sabha), Shri Sanjay Sarraf (Spokesperson, RLJP), and Shri Ramji Singh (General Secretary, RLJP).
During the discussion, Shri Paras expressed the complete support of his party to the concept of One Nation One Election, highlighting various advantages:
- The initiative would significantly reduce unnecessary expenditure incurred by the nation and political parties during elections.
- Restoring and synchronizing simultaneous elections would be in line with the historical practice until a certain period.
- One Nation One Election would save time for the government, allowing more focus on governance.
- Multiple elections often hinder the development process due to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct.
- Despite potential sacrifices initially, the long-term benefits in the national interest are crucial.
- Advocated for fixed terms for assemblies, ensuring elected representatives can complete their full term for the welfare and development of constituencies.
In response to a query about potential violence during the simultaneous elections for local bodies, the delegation assured that the deployment of paramilitary forces would have a deterring effect, ensuring smooth polling.
The delegation submitted a written letter to the Chairman of the HLC, officially enlisting the RLJP’s support for the One Nation One Election initiative. The meeting concluded with the delegation assuring full support for the implementation of simultaneous elections, emphasizing the benefits it would bring to the nation.
