Cyclonic Storm ‘Hamoon’ Intensifies over BoB, IMD Issues Alert for Coastal Regions

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning as the deep depression over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm named “Hamoon” (pronounced as Hamoon). The cyclonic storm is situated near latitude 18.3°N and longitude 87.3°E, approximately 230 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 360 km south of Digha (West Bengal), and 510 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).

With a north-northeastward trajectory at a speed of 14 kmph during the past six hours, the cyclonic storm is anticipated to escalate further into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal within the next 12 hours. IMD forecasts the system’s projected path to lead it towards a near-north-northeastward movement, with a potential landfall between Khepupara and Chittagong along the Bangladesh coast around noon on October 25 as a deep depression.

Authorities have advised residents in the coastal regions to remain alert and take necessary precautions as “Hamoon” gains intensity and progresses towards the landmass. With the potential for severe weather conditions, it is essential for residents and local administrations to be prepared for the impact of the upcoming cyclonic storm. Further updates and guidelines will be provided as the situation develops.
