Bhubaneswar: As normalcy slowly returns to Cuttack after last week’s violence, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Monday appealed to residents to maintain peace and protect the city’s long-standing reputation for harmony.
Speaking to reporters, Harichandan said the government and police are keeping a close watch on the situation. “The situation in Cuttack is gradually returning to normal after the recent unrest. The police are taking all necessary steps to ensure calm. The Chief Minister has also appealed for peace. We urge everyone to refrain from any activity that could harm the image of Odisha or Cuttack,” he stated.
The minister further called on citizens to focus their energy on rebuilding community trust. “Let’s maintain peace and harmony. The government is vigilant and will take strict action against those involved in such incidents,” Harichandan added.
The unrest broke out on October 3 during the Durga Puja idol immersion procession at Dargah Bazaar, leading to a violent clash that left four people injured, including Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo.
Police have since intensified patrolling and arrested eight individuals linked to the incident, as efforts continue to identify and apprehend others involved.
