Cuttack Station Roof Collapse Disrupts Services, Restored Within Hours

Bhubaneswar: Rail traffic at Cuttack Railway Station was briefly thrown out of gear on Wednesday afternoon after a portion of the roof and wall caved in during redevelopment works. Train operations were restored within a few hours following swift clearance and repair efforts.

The mishap occurred around 3.45 pm when debris from the old structure fell onto the tracks, affecting movement on Platforms 1 and 2. No casualties or injuries were reported, officials of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) confirmed.

After nearly four hours of disruption, services resumed at 7.20 pm with the passage of Train No. 68408 Bhubaneswar–Balasore MEMU through Platform No. 1, signalling the restoration of normal traffic.

ECoR officials said construction at the station was being carried out with safety measures in place, but the partial collapse temporarily halted operations. Teams were immediately deployed to clear debris and ensure track safety before services could restart.

The Cuttack station is undergoing major redevelopment under Indian Railways’ modernisation plan, and authorities said additional checks would be carried out to avoid such incidents during construction.
