CSIR-NIScPR Empowers Science Media Communication Cell with Expert Insights in Orientation Workshop

New Delhi:  The CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR) took a significant stride towards enhancing the dissemination of science and technology (S&T) information to the public through its Orientation Workshop held on March 6. The workshop, hosted at CSIR-NIScPR, Pusa, New Delhi, focused on equipping the Science Media Communication Cell (SMCC) with effective strategies for communicating Indian scientific advancements to society.

Experts from diverse fields shared their insights with participants, emphasizing the importance of technical terminology, broadcast media, and social media in S&T communication.

Dr. Ashok Selwatkar, Assistant Director at the Commission of Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), guided participants on the critical role of technical terminology in S&T dissemination. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the latest scientific and technical terms across various domains, crucial for enhancing public awareness and comprehension of complex scientific concepts.

Ms. Priyanka Tiwari, Program Executive from the Science Cell, All India Radio (Delhi Station), shared her expertise on effectively broadcasting S&T achievements through Akashwani. Her insights covered techniques and methods to engage listeners and communicate scientific information effectively on radio.

Shri Bharat Bhushan, Consultant at Doordarshan, delved into innovative ways to disseminate science through social media. His presentation highlighted the use of artificial intelligence for audio, visual, and content creation, emphasizing its role in increasing social media engagement. Participants gained insights into the latest trends and learned how to leverage social media platforms to promote S&T content.

Dr. Suman Ray, Principal Scientist at CSIR-NIScPR, felicitated the experts for their valuable contributions. Dr. Manish Mohan Gore, Scientist at CSIR-NIScPR and Principal Investigator of SMCC, outlined the objectives, key activities, and the purpose of the orientation workshop.

The workshop, attended by SMCC project staff and Ph.D. students, aimed to enhance their knowledge of S&T dissemination. In alignment with the government’s focus on increasing public awareness of science and technology, such workshops play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the scientific community and society.

CSIR-NIScPR remains committed to advancing science communication, evidence-based S&T policy research, and promoting scientific awareness among the public. The Science Media Communication Cell (SMCC), a recent initiative of CSIR-NIScPR, seeks to disseminate S&T achievements through various mass media formats, contributing to the overall scientific literacy of the nation. The Orientation Workshop provided a unique platform for experts to collaborate and share insights, ensuring a more effective communication of complex scientific concepts to the public.
