CSIR-NIO Empowers Oceanographers with Knowledge Exchange Program
Goa: CSIR-NIO-Goa successfully concluded a month-long certificate course in Oceanography, achieving a significant milestone in collaborative learning and knowledge sharing among oceanographers and hydrographers. The course, initiated on January 15, 2024, witnessed active participation from delegates representing Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Seychelles.
The program, a sequel to the inaugural CSC Oceanographers and Hydrographers conference held in November 2022 in Goa and Hyderabad, aimed to deepen insights and expertise in various facets of Oceanography. Guided by 58 distinguished scientists from CSIR-NIO, participants explored diverse topics, including marine biology, ocean chemistry, physics, seafloor geology, marine instrumentation, and archaeology.
Beyond traditional classroom sessions, participants were taken to other ocean-related institutes in the state, such as NIH and NCPOR, fostering interdisciplinary learning and expanding their understanding of marine sciences.
At the concluding ceremony, Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh, Director, CSIR-NIO, emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral partnerships among littoral nations to enhance comprehension of the Indian Ocean Region. Participants shared their newfound knowledge and insights, and Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh distributed certificates to mark the successful completion of the course.
