Bhubaneswar: The CSC CSR Conclave 2025 marked a significant milestone in India’s journey toward inclusive growth, with a focus on rural empowerment through technology. Inaugurated by Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the event spotlighted the crucial role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in bridging the urban-rural divide, leveraging Common Services Centres (CSCs) as a powerful tool for social transformation.
“CSC represents a radical idea bridging the urban-rural divide through technology,” said Tiwari during his inaugural address. His remarks set the tone for the event, which centered on how CSR can promote sustainable growth and empower rural communities through digital innovation and skill development.
Tiwari emphasized the significance of CSCs in strengthening India’s social fabric, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for rural digital empowerment. He specifically highlighted the CSC Academy’s pivotal role in advancing CSR initiatives, especially in vocational training and digital literacy for rural populations. He also praised the alignment of CSC initiatives with national programs like the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, which aims to support traditional artisans and craftspeople.
The Conclave, organized by CSC Academy and the Indian ESG Network, brought together leaders from government, corporate, and development sectors to explore how CSR can drive environmental sustainability, community development, and transformative change in rural India.
Sanjay Kumar Rakesh, Chairman and Secretary of CSC Academy, delivered a keynote address on the transformative impact of CSCs. Describing CSCs as more than just digital access points, Rakesh referred to them as catalysts for change, operated by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) who empower their local communities. “CSR is not just a statutory requirement but a strategic driver for inclusive progress,” he stated, emphasizing the Academy’s focus on scalable and measurable CSR programs that aim to reach underserved rural populations.
Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director (Training & Skill Education) at CBSE, underscored the importance of CSC Academy in preparing the next generation for future challenges, particularly in cutting-edge fields like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and Healthcare.
The event featured a series of expert-led discussions, diving deep into the intersection of CSR, environmental sustainability, and community development. Key topics discussed included education, skilling, digital literacy, financial inclusion, women empowerment, and healthcare.
Abhishek Gupta, Programme Specialist at UNICEF, discussed the “Passport to Earning” initiative, which focuses on creating sustainable earning opportunities for rural populations. Parnal Vats, Manager of Government Engagement at VISA, shared insights on the “Digital Village” program, which aims to equip villages with digital tools and resources to thrive in the modern economy. Other notable speakers included Geetanjali Gaur, CSR Manager at Kyndryl, and Rajiv Malik, CEO of Graposs Connect, who spoke about the CSC Olympiad initiative.
The event also featured thematic panels, including Education, Skilling, and Employability, chaired by Sunil Dahiya of the Wadhwani Foundation, and Women and Child Healthcare, chaired by Dr. Vashima Subha of Ernst & Young. The panels brought together experts such as Raj Kumar Srivastava (IFS, Karnataka), Pallav Tiwari (UNICEF), Punit Desai (Welcome Cure), and Dr. Yogesh Patil (Biosense).
As the Conclave drew to a close, a renewed commitment to using CSR for rural transformation was echoed by all attendees. CSC Academy reaffirmed its mission to empower rural India through digital inclusion, skill-based education, and public-private partnerships. The event underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration to create a sustainable and inclusive future for all, highlighting the role of technology and CSR in building a brighter tomorrow for rural communities.
