Constable (GD) Examination to be Conducted in 13 Regional Languages

New Delhi:  In a landmark decision aimed at fostering inclusivity and promoting regional languages, the Constable (General Duty) examination for recruitment in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will be conducted in 13 regional languages, in addition to Hindi and English, for the first time. The examination is scheduled to take place from February 20 to March 7, 2024, and is expected to accommodate around 48 lakh candidates in 128 cities across the country.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah, took this historic decision to enhance the participation of local youth in the Central Armed Police Forces and to promote linguistic diversity.

The Constable (GD) examination, a flagship test conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC), attracts lakhs of aspirants from various corners of the country. The decision to include 13 regional languages is a significant step towards ensuring that candidates can take the examination in their mother tongue, providing them with a fair and equal opportunity for employment.

The regional languages in which the question papers will now be prepared are: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri, and Konkani.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah’s initiative has been instrumental in realizing this groundbreaking decision, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the diverse linguistic landscape of the country.

To facilitate the implementation of this decision, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Staff Selection Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). SSC has subsequently issued a notification for the Constable (GD) Examination, 2024, incorporating the 13 regional languages, in addition to English and Hindi.

This move is expected to significantly increase the reach of the examination among candidates throughout the nation, providing them with the opportunity to participate in the examination in their mother tongue or regional language. It is anticipated that this step will not only boost the selection prospects of candidates but also contribute to the overall inclusivity and diversity in the Central Armed Police Forces.

With this historic initiative by the Central Government, the youth across the country now have a golden opportunity to pursue a career in the service of the nation by participating in the Constable (General Duty) examination in their mother tongue.
