Bhubaneswar: In a bid to streamline the process of cremation and offer convenience to bereaved families, the administration in Odisha’s Puri town has launched the Swargadwar App for online registration of cremations at the Swargadwar cremation ground.
Now, grieving families can opt for online registration through the Swargadwar App, available on the Google Play store, according to an official from the district administration. The mobile app aims to minimize waiting times at the offline registration counter at Swargadwar and is accessible in three languages—Odia, Hindi, and English.
Besides the registration feature, the app provides comprehensive information about the facilities available at Swargadwar, ensuring users have access to essential details.
While the introduction of the mobile app is a step towards modernizing the registration process, the authorities emphasize that offline registration will continue to be an option at the cremation ground.
However, some locals express concerns that the app may not significantly reduce waiting times at Swargadwar. With 28 Pindi (elevated platforms) for cremations, the existing infrastructure may fall short, especially with a high influx of bereaved families from across the state seeking to perform the last rites of their loved ones.
The Swargadwar App is a technological initiative aimed at improving the overall cremation registration experience, and its effectiveness will be closely observed in the coming days.
