CM Majhi Unveils Odisha State Strategic Action Plan (2024-2029) to Combat Child Marriage

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the Odisha State Strategic Action Plan (2024-2029) on International Women’s Day, reinforcing the government’s commitment to eliminating child marriage and ensuring the safety and empowerment of young girls. Speaking at the state-level Women’s Day celebration at Lok Seva Bhavan, he emphasized that eradicating child marriage is a crucial step towards securing a brighter future for Odisha’s daughters.

Highlighting the need for an inclusive and gender-equal society, the Chief Minister asserted that true empowerment goes beyond financial aid. “Empowering women means enabling them to make their own decisions—within their families, communities, and workplaces,” he said, stressing that his government is determined to make Odisha a safer and more progressive state for women.

As part of broader efforts to enhance women’s safety, the Chief Minister also launched the Shakti App, a digital platform providing immediate emergency assistance. He described it as a guardian for women in distress, ensuring their security and support at the press of a button.

The Chief Minister highlighted the success of the Subhadra Yojana, calling it a historic step in Odisha’s women-led development journey. He announced the introduction of new initiatives, including Kishori Subhadra, Subhadra Sanchay, Subhadra Sakhi, Subhadra Yatri, and Subhadra Sangh (Subhadra Club), to further strengthen the scheme.

Addressing the cultural and historical importance of women’s empowerment, CM Majhi paid tribute to legendary women from India and Odisha, acknowledging their contributions to society. He called upon the people of Odisha to join hands in creating a future free from gender discrimination and ensuring that every girl in the state can dream fearlessly and achieve her full potential.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida reaffirmed the government’s commitment to women’s welfare, stating that child marriage prevention and women’s economic security remain top priorities. The event also saw the felicitation of social welfare officers, child protection officers, Anganwadi workers, and individuals excelling in sports and culture.

With the Odisha State Strategic Action Plan (2024-2029) in place, the government aims to eliminate child marriage and create a safer, more equitable society where women and girls can thrive.
