Odisha Police Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Sand and Moram Transportation, 117 Vehicles Seized

Bhubaneswar: Acting on the directions of the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, a statewide special drive against the illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals, including sand, moram, and laterite soil, has been launched across all districts.

As part of the enforcement efforts on March 8, 2025, Odisha Police detected 81 cases of illegal transportation of minerals, resulting in the seizure of 117 vehicles and the arrest of 88 individuals involved in the unlawful activities. The crackdown aims to curb the rampant illegal mining operations that pose environmental risks and cause financial losses to the state exchequer.

District authorities have been instructed to seek feedback from local residents to ensure the success of the drive. Odisha Police has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying enforcement actions, with continuous surveillance and strict legal measures against violators.

The drive against illegal mining and transportation of minor minerals will continue, with authorities closely monitoring activities across the state to prevent further violations.
