Subarnapur: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 56 development projects worth over ₹323 crore in Subarnapur district, signaling the government’s commitment to rapid, inclusive progress.
At a public gathering, CM Majhi inaugurated 11 completed projects worth ₹80 crore and laid the foundation for 45 new ones valued at ₹244 crore. The projects cut across multiple sectors, including road and bridge infrastructure, irrigation, healthcare, mega lift irrigation schemes, and hostel facilities—crucial for addressing both basic needs and long-term development in the region.
A key announcement during the event was the construction of four in-stream storage (ISS) structures on the Mahanadi River. These will be built at Godhaneswar and Khairamal in Birmaharajpur block, and at Harihara Jor and Surubali in Ulunda and Birmaharajpur blocks. These ISS projects aim to enhance water conservation and irrigation capacity, offering much-needed relief to farmers and ensuring better water management across Subarnapur.
Calling Subarnapur a land of “immense cultural, historical, and spiritual significance,” Majhi recalled the enduring legacy of Saint Poet Bhima Bhoi and praised the district’s traditional expertise in weaving and handicrafts. “Subarnapur continues to enrich Odisha’s cultural tapestry. Its rivers, traditions, and talent must be harnessed for a golden future,” he said.
Majhi reaffirmed his government’s resolve to deliver on its promises, noting that 11 of the 21 commitments made to the people had already been fulfilled within a year of taking office. “We began implementing public welfare measures within the first 24 hours of assuming power. This is just the beginning,” he declared.
In a significant policy shift, the CM also highlighted the government’s move to include unseasonal crop loss under the relief code, thereby extending vital support to farmers grappling with climate-related adversities.
“The rivers of Subarnapur will no longer flow unused—they will fuel development,” Majhi said, urging people to come forward with suggestions to shape the district’s roadmap. He also distributed financial assistance and work orders to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes during the event, underlining the administration’s focus on inclusive governance.
Joining the occasion, Bolangir MP Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo praised the Chief Minister’s proactive leadership and credited the Modi-led Central government for accelerating infrastructure growth in Odisha, particularly in highway and railway sectors.
