CHSE Odisha Announces New Exam and Evaluation Patterns for Plus-2 Exams 2024

Bhubaneswar:To ease the examination process for students, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) Odisha on Friday unveiled a new exam and evaluation pattern for the upcoming Plus-2 exams, scheduled for February 2025.

According to the new guidelines, the pass mark for each theory paper without a practical component has been set at 24. This means that students can now pass a theory subject, which is typically marked out of 80, by securing just 24 marks in the written exam. Additionally, 20 marks will be evaluated through internal assessments, contributing to the final score.

In a bid to reduce exam pressure and support students, the CHSE has also introduced changes to the question paper format. The new format will feature 20 marks dedicated to Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), a move aimed at helping students manage their time better and improve performance. Additionally, rather than long-answer questions, the papers will now include more short questions, with 7-mark questions replacing the earlier 10-mark questions. These changes, first proposed last August, are intended to make the exams more student-friendly and less stressful.

Speaking on the changes, Controller of CHSE, Prasant Parida, highlighted that this marks the first revision of the evaluation and marking system in the state’s higher secondary exams. He emphasized that the new pattern is designed to be student-centric, particularly benefiting average students and improving the overall pass rate.

The CHSE expects around 3,91,809 students to appear for the Plus-2 exams next year. The revised exam format and evaluation system are expected to provide students with a fairer and more supportive examination experience.
