Chingari, co-founded by Odia man announces paid period leaves for female employees

To normalise period talks and problems women experience every month during the menstrual cycle, the Indian social app Chingari has announced a two-day paid menstruation leave per month for its female employees.

The new policy has been implemented immediately. The move is an effort to combat the long-standing stigma associated with menstruation and to empower women to prioritise their health.

Founded by Biswatma Nayak from Odisha and Sumit Ghosh from West Bengal, the Changari app was launched in 2022.

Sharing about the step, Biswatma Nayak, co-founder of the app said, “We have been thinking about this for a long time. Every month women go through pain, this is our effort to let them take proper care during their periods. We have been trying to give our female employees certain facilities and this is one of them.”

“We are trying to create an inclusive and supportive work environment for them so that could excel in their work. Giving priority to their health is equally important. In our organisation we always try to increase the women ratio so that more women would come forward to join the IT- sector,” he informed.

Through #GARI4NARI, a social impact campaign aimed at empowering women in India by offering financial support to those in distress, the company has been striving to achieve this objective.

Chingari has been supporting its female creators by offering them periodic training and educational sessions to enhance their performance on the platform.
