Chief Secretary Reviews Performance of Odisha Discoms, Stresses Network Modernisation and Consumer-Centric Reforms

Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Anu Garg, in her capacity as Chairperson of Odisha’s power distribution companies, on Wednesday reviewed the performance of TPCODL, TPNODL, TPSODL and TPWODL at a board-level meeting, with a strong focus on strengthening distribution infrastructure and improving consumer experience across the State.

The meeting deliberated on accelerating capital investments aimed at network modernisation, reliability enhancement and technology-driven reforms. Emphasis was laid on the timely execution of government-funded projects to upgrade the power distribution system and ensure uninterrupted, quality electricity supply to consumers.

The Discoms outlined progress in key initiatives such as smart metering and the promotion of rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. These measures are expected to improve energy efficiency, empower consumers with better control over their electricity usage, and support the State’s transition towards cleaner energy solutions.

Operational performance parameters were also reviewed, particularly initiatives focused on improving system reliability and safety. The use of the Surakhya Kavach App for real-time safety monitoring and emergency response was highlighted as a critical tool in enhancing field-level preparedness and rapid incident management.

The Chief Secretary encouraged the Discoms to further strengthen customer care mechanisms and leverage digital technologies to deliver faster, more transparent and consumer-friendly services. She underscored the need for consistent performance improvements to meet rising demand and to align power distribution reforms with the State’s broader development and sustainability goals.
