Chief Electoral Officers’ Conference Begins in New Delhi; Odisha CEO Attends

Bhubaneswar: A two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), organized by the Election Commission of India (ECI), commenced today at the India International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, R.S. Gopalan, IAS, attended the conference along with Additional CEO Sushant Mishra and Deputy CEO Dr. Laxmi Prasad Sahu.

The conference was inaugurated under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and was graced by Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi.

During the inaugural session, the Election Commission reviewed the preparedness of CEO offices across all States and Union Territories for the upcoming nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

The conference serves as a follow-up to the preparatory meeting held on September 10, 2025, and includes detailed presentations on the voter base, qualifying dates, and electoral roll status across the country.

The Commission also assessed the progress made by States and Union Territories in implementing earlier directives—particularly those related to the mapping of current voters with previous records, ensuring greater accuracy and transparency in electoral rolls.

Additionally, the ECI reviewed the appointment and training status of key election functionaries, including District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs), and Booth Level Agents (BLAs), to ensure comprehensive preparedness for the SIR exercise.
