Chess Summer Camp begins at Kalinga stadium
Bhubaneswar: Over 100 students turned up at the Kalinga Stadium during the inaugural of Chess Summer Camp being organised by Sports & Youth Services and the All Odisha Chess Association.
The chess camp will continue till the 21st of May, bringing in 20 days of fun exercise chess amongst the participants. Participants included children under 15 years of age, and open age category.
During the camp, the participants will be taught the various rules and tactics of playing chess.
Emphasizing that Odisha sports are committed to support chess across the state through various camps, Sports & Youth Services Department, Secretary, Vineel Krishna said, “It is inspiring and a delight to see the overwhelming response to the Chess Summer Camp. Over the next few weeks, the participants will be introduced to the games of chess, and will learn the fundamentals. It will be a unique platform to build critical and strategic thinking.
“This is the first time I am enrolling my kid in such a massive summer camp. The registration was smooth, and the organisers have done a good job of managing the kids well. I’m keen to know what the entire camp turns out to be,” said Sweety Rath, an IT Professional.
Lieutenant Commander Kapil Sanghwan, a Navy officer said, “It has been a wonderful experience today. The environment is very lively with a lot of energy. I have also enrolled in the intermediate program and it has been an excellent experience to begin with, and I’m sure the kids are going to have a wonderful time here.”
Along with Chess, the Odisha Sports Department has also commenced camps in other sports disciplines including Swimming, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics, Gymnastics, Kabbadi, Judo, and weightlifting. A summer camp for Hockey was recently concluded.
