Central Information Commission Achieves 100% RTI Disposal Rate, Reports Chief Information Commissioner to Minister Jitendra Singh

New Delhi: Chief Information Commissioner of India, Heeralal Samariya, met with Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, to discuss significant achievements and advancements within the Central Information Commission (CIC). During the meeting, Samariya announced that the CIC has achieved a remarkable 100% disposal rate for Right to Information (RTI) applications in the first six months of the current financial year.

Dr. Jitendra Singh commended the CIC for this accomplishment, praising the ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the RTI process. He specifically acknowledged the Commission’s innovative use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for studying trends, analyzing patterns in RTI applications, and verifying the credentials of applicants.

The Chief Information Commissioner further informed the Minister about the introduction of a hybrid mode for hearings, combining physical presence with video conferencing. This approach has not only streamlined the process but also significantly increased the disposal rate of RTI appeals, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when online methods became essential.

Samariya highlighted that RTI applications can now be filed via a mobile app, allowing for greater accessibility and convenience. “New technologies have been introduced, leading to the speedy disposal of pending applications,” he stated, adding that awareness camps are also being organized to educate the public about the RTI Act.

Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the Modi government’s commitment to transparency, noting that a 24-hour portal service was established for e-filing RTI applications at any time, from anywhere in the country or abroad. He also pointed out that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the CIC has been relocated to its own exclusive office complex, further enhancing its operational capabilities.

The Minister reiterated the importance of the Central Information Commission in fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision of transparency and encouraging citizen participation in government functions.
