Chittorgarh: In a significant development as part of ongoing Anti-Drug operations, officers of the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Neemuch, intercepted a Mahindra Trailer truck on the Udaipur-Bhilwara highway near Shri Dev Narayan Bhojnalay in Gangrar, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. The operation, carried out based on specific intelligence, led to the seizure of 267 plastic bags containing Poppy Straw (Doda Chura) weighing a staggering 5,057.300 kg. This included 55 bags of Concentrated/Unlanced Poppy Straw (CPS) weighing 824.200 kg. The interception took place on January 7, 2024.
Acting on precise intelligence that a Mahindra Trailer truck, registered in Rajasthan, would be transporting a significant quantity of Poppy Straw, a dedicated team of CBN Neemuch officers was swiftly mobilized on January 7, 2024. Employing stringent surveillance along the suspected route, the vehicle was successfully identified and intercepted near Shri Dev Narayan Bhojnalay on the Udaipur-Bhilwara highway in Gangrar, Chittorgarh.
The truck was concealing the illicit cargo by carrying 120 bags of cattle feed as a cover. Upon thorough inspection at the CBN Office, the officers discovered a total of 267 plastic bags containing Poppy Straw weighing 5,057.300 kg. Following the completion of legal formalities, the Poppy Straw, along with the cattle feed and trailer, was seized, and one individual was arrested under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
This operation underscores the commitment of CBN to combat the illegal drug trade and dismantle networks engaged in such activities.
In a separate development, the Central Bureau of Narcotics recently executed Operation “PRAHAAR,” marking the most extensive destruction of illicit opium poppy crop in India to date. The operation targeted 10,326 hectares (25,526 acres) of illicit opium in Arunachal Pradesh (8,501 hectares) and Manipur (1,825 hectares). Despite challenging terrain and safety risks, the operation achieved its objectives successfully.
Additionally, Operation “SHAKTI” in Himachal Pradesh witnessed the destruction of 1,124 hectares (2,777 acres) of illicit Cannabis (Ganja) crop. This operation stands as the largest of its kind conducted by CBN in Himachal Pradesh, further demonstrating the agency’s dedication to eradicating illegal drug cultivation.
