CBSE Announces Introduction of New Syllabus and Textbooks for Classes 3 to 6 in Academic Year 2024-25

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has disclosed plans to introduce a fresh syllabus and textbooks for students in classes 3 to 6 for the academic year 2024-25. The new syllabi and textbooks are being developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and are expected to bring forth innovative pedagogical approaches and updated content to enhance the learning experience of students.

According to CBSE officials, there will be no alterations to the syllabi for students in other classes, ensuring continuity and stability in their academic pursuits. The decision to revamp the curriculum for classes 3 to 6 underscores the commitment of educational authorities to adapt to evolving pedagogical practices and align with the goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

NCERT is currently engaged in the process of formulating the new syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 to 6, with plans for their release in the near future. Joseph Emmanuel, CBSE’s Director (Academics), has urged schools to adopt these new resources, replacing those published by NCERT until the year 2023. This transition is expected to facilitate a seamless integration of updated curriculum frameworks and teaching methodologies into the classroom environment.

Furthermore, NCERT is developing a bridge course for class 6 and concise guidelines for class 3, aimed at assisting students in transitioning smoothly to the new pedagogical practices outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These resources will be made accessible to all schools online, ensuring equitable access to quality education materials.

To support the implementation of the new curriculum, CBSE will organize capacity-building programs for school heads and teachers, enabling them to familiarize themselves with the updated teaching-learning perspectives and effectively integrate them into classroom instruction.
