Buxi Jagabandhu’s Saga of Bravery Comes Alive Ahead of World Odia Language Conference

Bhubaneswar: As a prelude to the inaugural Biswa Odia Bhasa Sammilani (World Odia Language Conference), the play “Buxi Jagabandhu” unfolded in Bhubaneswar on Monday, shedding light on the heroic tale of Odisha’s legendary freedom fighter.

The play, which delves into the bravery and sacrifices of Buxi Jagabandhu during the armed rebellion against British rule in Odisha in 1857, took center stage on the premises of the Harekrushna Mahtab State Library in the city. Penned by Soubhagini Ray and directed by Dhira Mallik, the production aimed to bring to life the valorous episodes of Buxi Jagabandhu’s life.

Artists from Satabdira Kalakar, a prominent cultural club in Bhubaneswar, took on various roles, captivating the audience with their portrayal of historical events. Officials from the library were present to witness the performance.

The play was staged as part of the upcoming three-day World Odia Language Conference, scheduled to commence at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar from February 3. The conference aims to celebrate and promote the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Odia, fostering a sense of unity and pride among Odia speakers worldwide.

In another development, the government has taken proactive measures to ensure the active participation of Non-Resident Odias (NROs) in the first-ever World Odia Language Conference, emphasizing the global significance of the Odia language and culture.
