BSF Inaugurates New Command Outpost in Odisha, Marking a Turning Point in the Fight Against Naxalite Insurgency

 

Kandhamal:  The Border Security Force (BSF) has taken a significant step in bolstering the security infrastructure in Odisha with the establishment of a new Command Outpost (COB) in Badapaju. The ceremony held on February 28, 2024, marked a pivotal moment in addressing the challenges faced by the region, which has long languished without essential development works due to the looming threat of Naxalite activities and its remote location.

Situated approximately 45 kilometers away from the Kandhamal district headquarters, Badapaju has struggled with inadequate facilities and development, making it vulnerable to the influence of Naxal groups. The establishment of the COB, under the operational and administrative responsibility of the 99 Bn BSF, Situated under SHQ Koraput, is expected to bring about a transformative change in the region.

The ceremony was graced by the esteemed presence of Sanjeev Kumar, Commandant, 99 Bn BSF, and Suvendhu Kumar Patra, IPS, SP Kandhamal, among other dignitaries. The national flag was hoisted, symbolizing the dawn of a new era for Badapaju, in the presence of officers from 99 Bn and DIOC Kandhamal.

The occasion witnessed the enthusiastic participation of local villagers, including Sh. Tarun Kanhar, Ex Ward member of Village Jalapadar, and Smt. Puspa Lata Kanhar, Ward Member of Vill-Badapaju. Essential items such as blankets, clothing, stationary, sports equipment, and medicines were distributed among 345 individuals (Male-120, Female-160, Children-65), showcasing the BSF’s commitment to uplift the local community.

Shri Suvendhu Kumar Patra, IPS, SP Kandhamal, expressed optimism about the positive impact of the new COB, stating, “the establishment of the new COB Badapaju will pave the way for government welfare programs to reach the locals of Vill. Badapaju and nearby areas, with the assistance of BSF, fostering peace and security in the region.”

Commandant Sanjeev Kumar emphasized the critical role of the BSF in enhancing security operations in the region, particularly plagued by the incessant movement of Naxal groups. The establishment of security camps in remote and heavily affected areas like Badapaju is poised to liberate thousands of villagers from the grip of Maoist insurgency, enabling them to benefit from government development initiatives and welfare schemes.

This milestone underscores the unwavering commitment of the BSF towards ensuring the safety, security, and prosperity of the region, heralding a new dawn of hope and progress for the people of Badapaju and surrounding areas. The establishment of COB Badapaju is expected to be a game-changer in ridding the region from Maoist influence, ushering in a brighter future for the community.
