New Delhi: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) commemorated its 65th Raising Day on May 7, 2024, with a grand event held in New Delhi, presided over by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. The occasion was marked by accolades for the BRO’s unwavering dedication in executing its responsibilities amidst challenging terrain and adverse weather conditions.

In his address, Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane hailed the BRO’s pivotal role in bolstering national security and fostering socio-economic progress in remote areas through its infrastructure projects along the borders. He emphasized the importance of infusing modern technology and techniques to expedite project completion, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.

Aramane also lauded the BRO’s commendable efforts during critical situations such as the Silkyara Tunnel Collapse and the Sikkim Floods, underscoring its significance in relief and rescue operations. He highlighted the BRO’s forthcoming involvement in the Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at holistic development of border villages.

Director General, Border Roads Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan extended greetings to all ranks of the BRO, emphasizing its commitment to national security, connectivity, and development. Renowned as a leading infrastructural construction agency in high-altitude and snow-bound areas, the BRO has constructed vital roads, bridges, tunnels, and airfields to meet strategic requirements.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, the BRO completed 125 infrastructure projects worth Rs 3,611 crore, including the monumental Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, plans are underway for the construction of the Shinkun La Tunnel, set to become the world’s highest tunnel upon completion.
