BMC Inaugurates Stray Dog Sterilisation Center in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a significant step towards addressing the street dog menace by inaugurating a dedicated stray dog sterilisation center at Mancheswar in the Odisha capital.

Equipped with modern facilities, the center can accommodate up to 300 dogs and perform approximately 100 sterilisation operations daily, according to a tweet from the civic body. The facility boasts 48 kennels, two operation theatres, and five operation tables, ensuring a comprehensive setup for efficient sterilisation procedures.

To facilitate the seamless pick-up and drop-back of stray dogs, the center is equipped with two dedicated vehicles. The team managing the facility comprises veterinarians and support staff, who are committed to ensuring the well-being of the dogs during their stay at the center, as highlighted by Mayor Sulochana Das.

Inaugurating the center alongside MLA (North Bhubaneswar) Susanta Kumar Rout on Tuesday, Mayor Sulochana Das emphasized that sterilisation is the most effective measure to mitigate the street dog menace in Bhubaneswar.

As part of the sterilisation process, the stray dogs will also receive anti-rabies vaccinations before being returned to their respective locations. This comprehensive approach aligns with the city’s commitment to the welfare of both its residents and the stray dog population.
