Bhubaneswar Unveils ‘Anandabana’: A Green Haven in the Heart of the City

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), in collaboration with the Forest department, has transformed 89.05 acres of barren revenue forest land into a vibrant urban forest named ‘Anandabana’ in the Kalinganagar area of the Odisha capital.

Anandabana, a fusion of ‘Ananda’ (happiness) and ‘Bana’ (forest), is divided into two patches connected by a foot overbridge, offering a unique experience for visitors.

The urban forest boasts diverse tree species, including bamboo, neem, and banyan, along with an impressive collection of 60 types of medicinal plants. Each tree is equipped with a barcode, allowing visitors to scan and access detailed information, including medicinal properties.

To enhance the visitor experience, Anandabana features tree houses, rope bridges, wooden bridges, and a captivating rose garden. The facility offers soil, rock, and bicycle trails, providing a perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational activities. Additionally, amenities such as sitting areas, an interpretation center, open-air theatre, Mission Shakti stalls, toilets, and parking lots have been strategically placed within the urban forest.

An array of ponds further enhances the picturesque setting of Anandabana, creating a serene environment for visitors to explore. The BDA anticipates dedicating this green haven to the public in the near future, providing a rejuvenating space for residents and tourists alike.
