Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project to be completed by December 2027

Bhubaneswar: The ambitious Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project is expected to be completed by December 2027, as revealed during a meeting of the State-level Project Monitoring Committee held at Lok Seva Bhavan today. Chaired by Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena, the meeting delved into crucial aspects such as funding arrangements, technical specifications, station plans at various locations, and platform arrangements.

According to an official press release, the next 6 to 8 months will witness key milestones, including tendering for land planning, structural arrangements, civil works, and the relocation of utilities, among other project-related activities.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the project in January 2024, with the December 2027 completion target. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has joined forces with the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation as a turn-key consultant for executing the metro rail construction from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Trishulia.

Key officials, including Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Department G Mathivathanan, Principal Secretary of Finance Department Vishal Kumar Dev, and Special Secretary of Commerce and Transport Department Manoj Kumar Mishra (Railway Corporation), participated in the meeting, focusing on critical aspects of the project’s progress.

Preceding the State-level Project Monitoring Committee meeting, the Board of Directors of Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation convened under the guidance of the Chief Secretary. The status of the first phase of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project was presented, with discussions centered on various managerial aspects of the Board. The comprehensive approach ensures the timely and successful execution of this transformative transportation initiative in the heart of Bhubaneswar.
