Bhubaneswar Gets Boost in Worker Healthcare with New Super Speciality OPD at ESI Hospital

Bhubaneswar: A Super Speciality OPD facility was inaugurated at the ESI Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Thursday. The initiative, led by Labour & Employees’ State Insurance, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia, aims to deliver advanced medical services to insured employees and their families.

The new facility has been developed in collaboration with Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, Bhubaneswar. It offers specialised outpatient services in critical disciplines such as Urology, Cardiology, Oncology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Neurology, and Endocrinology—all at no cost to the beneficiaries under the ESI scheme.

During the inauguration, Minister Singkhuntia emphasized the importance of accessible and specialized healthcare for the working population. He stated that the state is determined to provide equitable health services to every insured worker and their dependents without financial hardship.

Currently, the ESI scheme in Odisha serves nearly 10 lakh insured individuals through its network of four hospitals and 53 dispensaries. Plans are in place to expand this infrastructure further, with proposals for five new hospitals in the pipeline.

The Bhubaneswar ESI Hospital also recently launched its first dialysis unit, addressing the growing number of kidney disease cases in the state. In response to the increasing prevalence of heart and kidney ailments, ESI has partnered with 12 secondary care and 15 tertiary care centres across various districts to improve access to advanced medical treatments.

Officials from the Labour Department, medical professionals, and representatives from Hi-Tech Medical College were present during the event. The launch of the super speciality OPD marks a critical step toward a more robust and inclusive healthcare system for Odisha’s workforce.
