Bharat Pavilion Inaugurated at 77th Cannes Film Festival: A Celebration of Indian Cinema

Cannes: The 77th Cannes Film Festival witnessed a momentous occasion as the Bharat Pavilion was inaugurated today, marking India’s vibrant presence at one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals. This year, Bharat shines with numerous official selections across various sections, showcasing its rich cinematic heritage on the global stage.

Hosted annually by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Government of India, the Bharat Pavilion signifies India’s steadfast commitment to promoting its film industry and fostering international collaborations. Spearheaded by the National Film Development Corporation as the nodal agency and FICCI as the industry partner, the pavilion serves as a hub for networking, collaboration, and the promotion of Indian cinema worldwide.

The grand inauguration ceremony was led by Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador of India to France. Esteemed dignitaries, renowned filmmakers, and industry leaders graced the occasion, including Tholoana Rose Ncheke, Chairperson, National Film and Video Foundation, South Africa, Christian Jeune, Director of Films Department, Cannes Film Festival, and Filmmaker Richie Mehta.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Sanjay Jaju expressed delight at India’s increased presence in the Cannes official selection this year. He emphasized the government’s support for Indian projects showcased at Cannes and highlighted the pavilion’s role in enhancing collaboration and promoting Indian cinema globally.

H.E. Jawed Ashraf emphasized India’s growing significance on the global stage and the importance of showcasing its cultural richness through cinema. Filmmaker Richie Mehta expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by film festivals and stressed the importance of sharing Indian storytelling with the world.

States like Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra are actively participating in the Cannes Film Market, promoting their picturesque locales for international film shoots. Notably, Jammu & Kashmir is making its debut at the Cannes Film Market, attracting global filmmakers with its breathtaking landscapes.

The Bharat Pavilion serves as a dynamic platform, offering insights into Indian films, talent, and industry opportunities. It is set to host engaging panel discussions and networking sessions, further enhancing India’s footprint at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
