Ben Stokes Achieves Milestone with 100th Test Appearance for England
Rajkot: Ben Stokes, the dynamic England captain, makes history as he joins the elite 100-Test club during the third Test against India in Rajkot. Stokes becomes the 76th player globally and the 16th from England to reach this significant milestone.
With this achievement, Stokes stands alongside the likes of cricket legends Garfield Sobers and Jacques Kallis, who also boast the unique distinction of amassing 6000+ runs and 150+ wickets in Test cricket.
Since his debut against Australia in 2013, Stokes has been a stalwart for England. In 99 matches, he has scored 6251 runs at an impressive average of 36.34 and taken 197 wickets. Notable among his performances is his unforgettable unbeaten 135 against Australia in Leeds, leading England to a near-impossible chase of 359 in the fourth innings.
Stokes assumed the captaincy during a challenging period for England in Test cricket, and under his leadership, the team has embraced an aggressive style of play, earning a reputation as one of the most exciting Test sides. Since taking on the captain’s role, Stokes has led England in 20 matches, securing 14 victories, enduring five losses, and achieving one draw.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions on the field and as a leader, Stokes was honored as the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year in 2022.
As England faces India in the third Test, the series stands at 1-1 after England secured a rare win in Hyderabad before India bounced back with a 106-run victory in Vizag. Stokes aims to further enhance his legacy with a positive result in his 100th Test match.
