Ayodhya Bypass Project Gains Momentum Under PM GatiShakti for Socio-Economic Development

New Delhi: As part of the PM GatiShakti initiative, the Ayodhya Bypass Project has been identified as a critical infrastructure project contributing to comprehensive socio-economic development. Over the last two years, 64 Network Planning Group (NPG) meetings have been conducted, emphasizing area-based development for more than 131 infrastructure projects.

The Ayodhya Bypass Project, evaluated during the 52nd NPG meeting, encompasses a Greenfield project spanning 67.57 kilometers. It comprises the construction of the Northern Ayodhya Bypass (35.40 km) and the Southern Ayodhya Bypass (32.172 km). The project covers significant districts, including Lucknow, Basti, and Gonda, facilitating improved connectivity to economic, social, and logistics nodes.

Ayodhya, strategically located between economic hubs such as Lucknow and Gorakhpur, witnesses the passage of major commodities. The bypass aims to ensure uninterrupted freight flows, alleviate traffic congestion, and enhance overall connectivity in the region.

Anticipated to accommodate the forecasted increase in passenger and freight vehicle movement, the project targets eight influence areas around Ayodhya. It aims to streamline the movement of people and goods, reduce travel time to critical national highways, and enhance multi-modality with integrated infrastructure, including railway stations and airports.

This project aligns with other proposed projects evaluated in NPG meetings, such as the Prayagraj – Raibareili Project, Gorakhpur-Siliguri Corridor, and Gorakhpur-Bareilly Corridor. Ayodhya’s significance extends beyond its cultural heritage, contributing to regional development and connectivity.

Recent milestones, including the inauguration of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, showcase the government’s commitment to fostering economic and cultural exchange. The redeveloped Ayodhya Dham Junction Railway Station further supports seamless connectivity, benefiting both commuters and the transportation of goods for regional economic growth. The Ayodhya Bypass Project stands as a testament to the integrated development vision driving the PM GatiShakti initiative.
