‘Asia Centre for Community Media’ to come up at Konark
Konark: To promote community media and development communication across Asian countries, the ‘Asia Centre for Community Media’ will be established at Konark. A nonprofit organisation Young India has proposed the establishment of the centre.
The centre would offer short-term courses, training, and capacity-building workshops for media students, community media practitioners, and journalists from across Asia. The centre would have two modern classrooms, two training hall, a digital library, a conference hall for national and international conferences and a cafeteria.
Community Media Specialist & Former National President, the Community Radio Association of India, NA Shah Ansari said, “The purpose of establishing the institution is to provide a platform to media fellows for cross-learning and research in the field of communication, social media, and community media.”
“Most of the young journalists who pass from various media institutions have the thematic knowledge but lack practical knowledge. The institution would enhance their skill with the short-term training and course,” he added.
The foundation stone will be laid soon and is likely to be started by 2025, he informed.
