Arunachal Pradesh’s Yanung Jamoh Lego Honored as “Adi Queen of Herbs” with Padma Shri
Itanagar: Yanung Jamoh Lego, a 58-year-old herbal medicine expert from the Adi Community in Arunachal Pradesh, to be conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award, earning her the title of “Adi Queen of Herbs.” Her remarkable contributions to herbal medicine, despite financial constraints and personal challenges, have played a crucial role in reviving the traditional healing system of the Adi tribe and preserving the rich medicinal knowledge of Arunachal Pradesh.
Widely recognized for her expertise, Yanung Jamoh Lego has provided medical care to over 10,000 patients, becoming a beacon of hope for those seeking traditional healing methods. Additionally, she has educated an impressive count of 1 lakh individuals on the medicinal properties of herbs and conducted training sessions for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to enhance their understanding and utilization of these herbs.
Yanung Jamoh Lego’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident through her annual plantation of over 5,000 medicinal plants. She has actively promoted the establishment of herbal kitchen gardens in households across the East Siang district, fostering a culture of self-reliance in healthcare.
Despite facing financial constraints and personal challenges, Yanung Jamoh Lego’s dedication to the revival of the lost traditional healing system of the Adi tribe and Arunachal Pradesh as a whole has been unwavering. The Padma Shri Award is a recognition of her instrumental role in preserving and promoting the rich traditional knowledge of medicinal herbs, ensuring its continuity for future generations.
