Bhubaneswar: Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Odisha, Anu Garg, IAS, reviewed the progress of key irrigation projects — Kanupur, Subarnarekha, and Anandpur — at a meeting held today in the Conference Hall of the Department of Water Resources.
During the review, it was revealed that the headworks of the Kanupur Irrigation Project are nearly complete, with only the depletion sluice and installation of a few gates remaining. The progress in these components had been temporarily affected by the early onset of monsoon. The Main Canal and distribution system have achieved 94% and 75% completion, respectively. It was further informed that Rabi irrigation for 12,000 hectares will be ensured in the upcoming season.
The meeting also noted that the Subarnarekha Irrigation Project (Phase-I) has been fully completed, while Phase-II is advancing steadily, marking consistent progress toward expanding irrigation coverage in northern Odisha.
Similarly, the Anandpur Project is progressing well. The Link Canal has been completed, while the Baitarani Right Bank Canal and Salandi Left Main Canal are nearing completion. So far, an ayacut area of 12,000 hectares has been developed, and work on other distribution systems is underway.
