
With the cyclone Tauktae just passing by from western coasts of India, the country is likely to phase another cyclone developing in Bay of Bengal.
Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted another low pressure likely to form in Bay of Bengal near Andaman and Nicobar islands on March 22. There is a possibility of the low pressuring intensifying into a cyclonic storm.
The next cyclone which would be named Yaas, if forms is likely to be third major cyclone in Bay of Bengal after Fani and Amphan which affected coasts of Odisha and West Bengal in 2019 and 2020.
It is likely to move northwestwards and reach the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal around May 26. It has been speculated that the cyclone may make a landfall in Sundarbans areas. However, it is too early to predict its course as the actual movement would be known only after the formation of the system.
