Bharat Taxi Likely to Roll Out in Odisha Soon

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is preparing to introduce Bharat Taxi, the cooperative-based ride-hailing service, in major cities of the state, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta informed the Odisha Assembly.

In a written reply, the minister said the state government has initiated legal and administrative measures to implement the service, which was formally launched by the Union Ministry of Cooperation on February 5, 2026.

The detailed policy and operational framework for Odisha is currently under departmental consideration. A meeting held by the Union Cooperation Ministry in March had discussed the operational structure of Bharat Taxi and the role of cooperative societies in running the service.

Bharat Taxi is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and follows a cooperative model in which drivers are members and stakeholders of the platform. The service is currently operational in parts of Delhi-NCR and Gujarat, with expansion planned across the country.

Once the required formalities and approvals are completed, the service is expected to be introduced in major Odisha cities, offering an additional app-based mobility option for passengers and a cooperative platform for taxi drivers.
